Justice had never been ensured for any of the killings or rapes of the indigenous people committed in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, hill women activists told a protest programme Friday.
From a rally held in Khagrachhari town protesting the death of Romel Chakma, the speakers particularly demanded that the authorities concerned must give proper investigation report in all the rape cases.
Several women rights organisations including Hill Women's Federation took part in the rally held in front of the Khagrachhari office of United Peoples' Democratic Front (UPDF) in Swanirbhar area, our correspondent reported.
Hill Women's Federation President Nirupa Chakma, Nari Sangha General Secretary Kajali Tripura, and Pahari Chhatra Parishad Vice-President Bipul Chakma, among others, addressed the rally.
The activists brought out a procession after the rally. They marched towards the Chengi Square before ending the procession in front of the UPDF office again.
HSC examinee Romel, general secretary of Naniarchar Upazila unit PCP in Rangamati, was picked up by the army personnel of Naniarchar camp on April 5, and handed over to the police in critical condition.
Police on April 6 admitted him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he died on April 19.
UPDF and PCP have enforced blockade in the district demanding arrest of the army personnel involved in the torture of Romel, who was also visually impaired, and an independent judicial inquiry.
