Update : 19 Apr 2017, 03:39 PM
A person has been stabbed to death allegedly by his in-laws over family dispute at South Keraniganj in Dhaka early Wednesday. Deceased Jewel Rana, hailing from Barisal’s Muladi, was an employee of a private company. South Keraniganj police station OC Monirul Isalm said the incident took place around 1am at Jewel’s in-laws house near Jhilmil Project area. Quoting family members, the OC said: “Jewel had love affair with one Jahangir Sheikh’s daughter Champa and they got married seven years ago. Recently, Jewel suspected that his wife might engage in an extra-marital affair. “Jewel and Champa’s families locked into a feud over the matter few days ago and since then Champa had been living at her father’s house in Keraniganj. Later, Jewel had decided to rent a separate house and live there with Champa.” Jewel’s allegation against Champa infuriated his in-laws. When Jewel went to his in-law’s house on Tuesday to bring his wife back, his uncle-in-law stabbed him with a knife leaving him dead on the spot, the OC added. Receiving information from the locals, police recovered Jewel’s body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. All the members of Jewel’s in-laws went into hiding soon after the incident, the OC said. He said police were trying to nab the killers.
