Members of the Detective Branch (DB) of police have detained five people from different areas of Dhaka with 12 pounds of snake venom worth around Tk15 crore.
Deputy Commission of DB (north) Sheikh Nazmul Alam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune Tuesday morning.
He said: “We detained them in a drive conducted last night [Monday]. The estimated price of the venom is Tk15 crore but it might be more than that.”
Details regarding the raid and the persons detained over involvement in illegal venom trade would be disclosed during a press briefing later in the day, he added.
The same night another DB team detained five people with fake notes and equipment in Dhaka.
