An alleged criminal has been killed in a “gunfight” with Detective Branch (DB) of Police members, during a drive by the law enforcement officials in Dhaka’s Mirpur area early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Sohel, 30. Two of his associates, Shohag and Hiron, were arrested during the drive.
Police claimed the three were suspects in the murder case of Chikna Jamal- another criminal who was shot dead two days ago.
“Police launched a crackdown after being tipped off about a secret meeting being held by the miscreants at Dewanpara Lohar Bridge in Mirpur’s Bhashantek around 2am,” DB Deputy Commissioner (west) Sajjadur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
Sensing police presence, the criminals opened fired, forcing the DB officials retaliate, Sajjad said.
Sohel, who was injured in the ensuing gunfight, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered two revolvers, one pistol and and several bullets from the location.
