A madrasa teacher has been accused of sodomising a 10-year-old male child in Kurigram.
The victim, a residential student of Nurani Talimul Qur’an Hafizia Madrasa, has been admitted to a local hospital for treatment and medical tests.
Accused Abdul Monaf has been on the run since the news of the incident surfaced Monday.
According to police and locals, Monaf tricked the boy to his dormitory room on Monday night and sodomised him throughout the night.
The victim revealed the matter to Mostakim, a Hifz student of the same madrasa, the next morning and returned home.
As he was unwilling to return to the madrasa, Mostakim informed the former’s family members, which they immediately informed the madrasa authorities.
Mostakim said that Monaf used to beat them up badly and that he had earlier sodomised some other male students.
But, Monaf managed to keep the matter secret by threatening the victims of dire consequences, he added.
“He [Monaf] even offered me an indecent proposal, which I rejected,” he said.
Another student named Nur Nabi also seconded Mostakim’s statement.
Director and Principal of the madrasa Abdur Rahim could not be reached for his comment on the matter.
But, Mosharraf Hossain, general secretary of the governing body, confirmed the news, and added that they had expelled the teacher.
The victim’s father also filed a case in this connection on Tuesday night.
Kurigram Sadar police Officer-in-Charge Abdus Sobhan said that they were conducting raids to arrest the culprit.
