A 60-year-old rapist has been arrested for raping a girl for several months and impregnating her in Porshuram of Feni.
Accused Abul Kashem, a grocer and scrap businessman in Kolapara Dakbungalow area of the municipality, was arrested on Sunday after he attempted to rape the girl near his shop.
A neighbour rescued the girl.
The family filed a case the same day and took the girl to Feni Sadar Hospital. Police arrested the rapist after the case was lodged under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
The accused was produced before the district court Monday and sent to jail.
Kashem lives at a house beside the shop with his family. He first raped the girl, who used to come to the shop to buy daily necessities, five months ago, according to police. Since then, he forced himself on her several times, for which she became pregnant at some point.
