Six women held in Panchagarh on suspicion of militancy

Police detained six women with a child on suspicion of being involved in militant activity in front of 18 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) canteen in Sadar upazila early yesterday. The detainees are Maleka Begum, Ambia Khatun, Ahasena Begum, Angura Begum, Surafa Akhter and Sumi. All of them hailed from Habiagnj. Panchagarh police station officer-in-charge Rabiul Hasan Sarkar said police are investigating whether the women have any link with any militant group. The police said, on information that a group of women took shelter at a house in front of the 18 BGB canteen, police went to the spot and took them to the Sadar police station for interrogation. Police also said the women initially confessed that they are residents of Habiganj district. They went there to visit Baro Auliya shrine in Atoyari upazila of the district. They have no connection with any militant group, the police said qouting the detainees.
