Gonojagoron Moncho uses Right to Information Act on Tonu murder case

Update : 20 Mar 2017, 09:36 PM

Comilla branch of Gonojagoron Moncho has demanded to know the current state of Tonu murder investigation under the Right to Information Act and given the police an ultimatum about initiating demonstrations from April 2.

Gonojagoron Moncho delivered memorandums to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Comilla police super on Monday, demanding them to show progress in the Tonu murder investigation within 10 days, or else they will initiate demonstrations.

Comilla Spokesperson of Gonojagoron Moncho Khairul Anam Raihan, Female Organiser Momota Raihan Momo, along with other activists delivered the memorandums.

Although a year has passed since the murder of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a former student of Comilla Victoria College, CID has failed to unravel the case, Khairul said.

“We have demanded to know the current state of the investigation under the Right to Information Act, if we see that no progress has been made in solving the case, we would build demonstrations with students from different institutes in Comilla,” he added.

Students of Comilla Victoria College organised a human-chain in the morning of March 20 demanding justice for Tonu, whose body was found exactly one year back inside Comilla Cantonment.

Victoria College Theatre, of which Tonu was a member, organised a milad in a mosque located on their campus marking the occasion.

Comilla CID took over the murder investigation on April 1 last year.
