A Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) team detained three people associated with Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) with around Tk11 lakh from Hathazari bus terminal in Chittagong early Sunday.
The detainees are Dhan Bikash Chakma, 60, Prem Ranjan Chakma, 32 and Rubel Babu Tanchangya, 19, [according to whom?]
The elite force set up a special check post at Hathazari bus terminal in the early hours of Sunday after receiving information that terrorists were en route to Chittagong from Bandarban on a microbus posing with ransom money.
The RAB personnel began searching the oncoming vehicles. When they signalled to stop a black microbus, three people got off the vehicle and tried to escape, but were caught by RAB.
They also recovered Tk11,10,450 from their possession.
“They collected the money by intimidating hill people. They might have been planning to use the money to purchase arms,” said Mimtanur Rahman, senior assistant director (media) of RAB 7.
During primary interrogation, the detainees confessed to being affiliated with the PCJSS.
“The detainees were involved in abduction, extortion, murder and smuggling in CHT,” he added.
He further added that legal actions were being taken against them.
