RAB arrests one in Barisal for posting distorted images of PM

The accused was arrested under the Digital Security Act

Rapid Action Battalion unit 8 (RAB) has arrested a youth from Barisal for posting distorted photos of eminent persons including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, army chief, and diplomats on Facebook.

The man was arrested from a shop named “Noman Pakhi Ghar” in the Muladi upazila of Barisal on Wednesday.

The arrestee, Nazrul Islam, 35, is a local bird-seller at the Muladi bazaar. He was also accused of making derogatory comments about VIP’s on his Facebook wall.

Major Sajibul Islam Sajib, deputy commander of RAB 8 confirming the matter, said: “The law enforcing agencies recently learnt that a person has been making derogatory comments about the prime minister and other honourable dignitaries and distorting their photos and posted them on his Facebook wall.

“On basis of that information, a RAB 8 operational team arrested Nazrul early Wednesday.”

A case will be filed against him under the Digital Security Act, said Muladi police station OC Ziaul Ahsan.
