An incident has been reported about the throats of six pet dogs being slit on the owner’s property in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur.
Two neighbours reportedly committed the heinous act on Saturday around 9am.
Aleya Begum filed the written complaint with Sreepur police station, accusing Hashem, 50, and Arif, 28.
According to Aleya’s statement, Hashem and Arif have tried to evict them and seize their land ever since they moved here from Noakhali in 2006.
As a threat, they killed the pet dog along with her five offspring on her property, and threatened to kill Aleya’s family similarly, if they did not give up the land.
Sreepur police station Assistant Sub-Inspector Mobarak Hossain said the police received a written complaint and will assign the task of investigating the incident.
Dr Abdul Jalil, an official of upazila animal livestock said: “For such instances the convicts should be tried under the Cruelty to Animals Act.”
Meanwhile, one of the accused Hashem denied the allegation and said: “Aleya Begum killed those dogs herself in an attempt to frame me on false charges.”
