The investigative officer in the case filed over the gang rape of a woman in Noakhali's Subarnachar upazila has been withdrawn for his negligence in duty.
Md Nizam Uddin, Charjabbar police station officer-in-charge (OC), was withdrawn on Tuesday, said Noakhali's Superintendent of Police Md Elias Sharif.
Nizam Uddin has been transferred to the district police lines, Elias added.
He said: "The Sadar police station OC Md Shahed Uddin has been posted instead of Nizam Uddin."
On January 2, Chittagong police range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Khandakar Golam Faruq had visited and spoke with the victim.
Afterwards, the senior police officer observed that the district detective branch of police had been more active in apprehending the suspects than the local police.
"Consequently, Nizam Uddin was withdrawn from the police station,” said Elias.
The woman, a mother of four, was gang-raped at the upazila's Charjubilee village on December 31 by a gang of 10-12 ruiling party supporters, allegedly following orders from case's main accused, Ruhul Amin, immediately following the general election on December 30.
Eleven people have so far been arrested in the case, among which eight have already confessed to the heinous crime.
