A stepson has allegedly killed his stepmother over drug money, in the capital's Pallabi Bauniabadh area, on Thursday.
A stepmother refused to provide her stepson, Russell, with money to fund his alleged drug addiction, and he hit her with a pick axe. This later turned out to be the cause of her death.
The deceased has been identified as Kajol Rekha , 40, wife of Abdur Rahim.
Russell, 16, immediately fled the scene, following the incident, and has yet to be arrested.
According to local sources the deceased and her stepson used to live near the Switch Gate area of Bauniabadh.
Pallabi police station Inspector (Operation) Emranul Islam has confirmed the matter.
He said: "The body is at Kurmitola Hospital. We will send it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital Morgue for an autopsy after finishing all the legal procedures."
"We are trying to arrest the stepson. Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation," he added.
