An 11-year-old girl has allegedly been raped in Bejpara area of Jessore town.
The suspect is Momrej Ali, 55, a resident of the area, who allegedly molested the girl in the early hours of Saturday.
The victim used to live with her grandmother in Bejpara area for her studies, and the molester lives next to their house.
According to the victim's mother, Momrej managed to lure her daughter to his house and tried to rape her in the early hours on Saturday.
The neighbours woke up hearing the girl scream. Momrej was seen running away from his home.
When the man returned home in the evening, the enraged neighbours gave him a good beating.
Both the victim and the accused have been receiving treatment at Jessore General Hospital.
Medical Officer Dr Waheduzzaman said the girl had gone through a number of medical tests and they could not say anything about her condition before getting the reports.
A case has been filed with Kotwali police station in this connection, confirmed the police station's Officer-in-Charge Ilias Hossain.
