Update : 01 Dec 2018, 12:24 AM

Abdur Rahman Badi, the Awami League MP from Cox’s Bazar 4 constituency, escaped a gun attack unhurt in the district’s Teknaf upazila on Friday night.

Unidentified miscreants opened fire at his car in the upazila’s Hoaikhong Kanjarpara area on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf road around 8:30pm, according to witnesses and police.

The gun attack had left the rear glass of Badi’s vehicle damaged.

Apart from the driver, Badi was riding with Teknaf Upazila Parishad Chairman Zafar Ahmed and Teknaf Municipality’s Councillor Faridul Alam. None of them was injured.

Teknaf police station’s Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) AS Doha said a police team was deployed to the scene right away.

“We are investigating the incident and trying to catch the attackers,” he added.

The ruling party’s Teknaf municipality unit General Secretary Md Alam Bahadur said there were two cars in MP Badi’s convoy, which was returning from a local party event.

Alam said Badi, Zafar and Faridul were in the first car, which came under attack, and he was in the second car with the lawmaker’s wife Shahin Akter.

“We did not see who carried out the attack as the area where it happened was very dark,” he added.
