Asked during a press briefing on Thursday about the suspect, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque told journalists: “We have a good relation with India. So we will bring back this Idris and question him.
“Then we will be able to learn what role he had in the Gulshan attack.”
Police cannot immediately identify him as a member of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Earlier on Thursday, India’s The Telegraph reported that Kolkata police had arrested a man named Mohammad Idris, whom they suspected of being a JMB leader.
They arrested him from a hideout in Burrabazar earlier this week.
Kolkata police had specific information that Idris had been going back and forth between Hyderabad and Kolkata trying to recruit and radicalise youths for the cause of Rohingyas, according to the paper.

The report said that the counter-terrorism unit in Bangladesh had been informed about the detention and they would be allowed to interrogate Idris.
However, when contacted, Police Headquarters DIG AKM Shohidul Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “We have not received any information from India’s end. We are contacting them.”
Delhi police told The Telegraph that Idris had actively been involved in the Gulshan attack.
Idris was taking instructions from JMB top leader Salehin to work for the cause of Rohingyas, the paper said, citing sources.
Salehin alias Salahuddin, the current leader of old JMB, is said to be hiding in India since he was snatched by a group of JMB members from a prison van in Mymensingh on February 24, 2014.
Kolkata police have handed over Idris to the special cell of the Delhi police, the report said.
