4.64kg of gold seized from Biman aircraft

There were forty gold bars with an estimated price of Tk2.32 crore

A team of Dhaka Customs House has seized around 4.64kg of gold from an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Acting on a tip-off, the team took position at different points of the boarding bridge area of Shahjalal International Airport and seized the gold from underneath a seat of the S2-AHN 300ER B777 Flight BG228, around 8am on Wednesday.

Dhaka Customs Assistant Commissioner (AC) Othello Chowdhury confirmed the matter to the Dhaka Tribune.

There were forty gold bars with an estimated price of Tk2.32 crore. 

The aircraft has also been impounded according to the Customs Act 1969, as it was used in smuggling of illegal goods. Steps to take legal action against it are underway.

The flight operated on the Abu Dhabi-Sylhet-Dhaka route.
