A team from the Dhaka Metro Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested eight gang members who used to pose as Detective Branch of Police (DB) officials and rob individuals.

Confirming Monday’s arrests to the media, at the PBI headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday, PBI Chief Deputy Inspector General Banaj Kumar Mazumder said the eight arrested from Sutrapur area include: a fake DB assistant commissioner, two fake inspectors, two fake sub-inspectors, three fake constables.  Two of the gang are still on the run.

“They were planning a robbery in front of Jagannath University when they were apprehended,” said the PBI chief.

One of the gang’s victims, Mostafizur Rahman, an expatriate currently in Dhaka, filed a case with Tejgaon police station on October 25—after a friend and he were robbed of Tk133,000 and two mobile phones.

Following the filing of the case and upon investigation, a PBI team thwarted the gang’s next planned robbery and arrested the eight.
