Update : 09 Mar 2017, 02:42 AM
“We also recovered several passports, fake visas, cash and equipment for creating false documents from their possession on Tuesday night,” RAB 3 Commanding Officer (CO) Lt Col Tuhin Mohammad Masud said on Wednesday. During a press briefing at the RAB media office in Kawran Bazar, Tuhin said RAB 3 conducted a drive in the airport area and rescued 10 illegal migrants, who were preparing to go Malaysia on March 1. Based on the victims’ information,  RAB learned that Shafikul Islam alias Guru and Abul Bashar were two Bangladeshi leaders of an international human trafficking syndicate. Shafikul and Abul were caught after drives were conducted in Motijheel and Mirpur DOHS. “Since Indonesia now provides on-arrival visas to Bangladeshis, migrants gain easy entry into the country. They are then handed over to another gang of traffickers who transport them to Medan, the capital of the North Sumatra province in Indonesia. The migrants are then taken to Malaysia by sea,” Tuhin explained. Several other drives have been conducted in Paltan and Khilgoan areas and another 22 traffickers have been detained. Among the 22,  some pretend to be local manpower agents and others are engaged in preparing the fake visas and necessary documents. Legal action will be taken against all 24 detainees.
