Two people were killed in a gunfight during an anti-drug raid by the police early today morning.
The incident took place in the Kubermukh area of Sabrang union in Teknaf upazila.
The deceased were identified as Saddam Hussein, 26, son of late Tofael Ahmed, and Saddam Hussein, 25, son of Sultan Ahmad.
Three weaponsand 20,000 tabletsof yaba were recovered from the spot.
Cox's Bazar Police Super ABM Masud Hossain said: "We,the Teknaf police station, were conducting our regular anti-drug raids in the area. After sensing the presence of the police, the drug traders opened fire. The police fired back in self-defense. At one stage, two dead bodies were recovered. Other drug traffickers fled the scene. We also recovered arms and yaba from the spot. The dead bodies were then taken to Teknaf Health Complex Hospital for postmortem.”
Notably, in the last 10 days, seven suspected drug dealers were killed in “gunfights”with the police in the area.
