Bombs thrown at routine highway patrol in Comilla

A routine enforcement of speed limits on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway took a drastic turn on Tuesday morning when a police patrol was attacked with crude bombs by a pair of men. The highway patrol was pursuing a Shyamoli Paribahan bus, heading from Chittagong to Dhaka, on main road near Kutumbpur in Chandina, Comilla. According to OC Nasir Uddin Mridha of Elliottganj highway police, two passengers stepped out when the bus was stopped. "Our police gave chase and drove the two men into a nearby village. They hurled more bombs at us, and we shot back."

Villagers rushed to the scene and helped police apprehend the two men. One of the bombers, who was identified as Hasan, from Patiya in Chittagong, was severely beaten up by the villagers and was detained. "The pair are possibly JMB militants based on their weapons and modus operandi," OC Nasir Uddin said.
