Villagers rushed to the scene and helped police apprehend the two men. One of the bombers, who was identified as Hasan, from Patiya in Chittagong, was severely beaten up by the villagers and was detained. His accomplice, who identified himself only as Jashim, was shot by the police and also arrested in critical condition.

"The pair are possibly JMB militants based on their weapons and modus operandi," OC Nasir Uddin said.
After the two were taken away to Comilla Medical College Hospital, senior police and administrative officials in Comilla visited the area.
