Additional SP hacked by gamblers during raid

Update : 07 Mar 2017, 05:17 PM
At least five people including Additional Police Superintendent Mahfuz Zaman Ashraf have sustained injuries during a raid to nab gamblers in Nababganj area of Dinajpur. All but Ashraf were released after primary treatment at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital. The attackers hacked his head with a sharp weapon, doctors said. Ashraf led a team of district detective branch (DB) officers to arrest gamblers at south Boalmari village under Binodpur Union of Nababganj Monday evening. A chase and counter-chase took place between the police and the criminals at that time. Later the gamblers attacked the law enforcers together with the villagers around 10pm, leaving five of them injured. Police left the area immediately and admitted the injured to the hospital. No one was arrested. Birampur Circle ASP Hafizur Rahman confirmed the incident to the Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday. “The additional SP conducted the drive with the help of district DB officers since the local police remained reluctant to stop the gambling that had been taking place at the village for a long time,” he added.
