Cabbie beaten to death in Khilkhet

A taxi driver has allegedly been beaten to death following an argument over a trifling matter at Dhaka’s Khilkhet. The deceased is Kismat Ali, 37, son of Foyej Ali of Gazipur. He was a taxi driver. Khilkhet police OC Shahidul Haque confirmed it to the Dhaka Tribune. “Kismat engaged in an altercation with the locally influential Topu over drinking tea in Kuratoli of Khilkhet around 11pm Friday. Later Topu and three or four of his associates beat him severely with iron rods,” Durgata Mollah, a maternal cousin of Kismat, was quoted as saying by the police. He was taken to Kurmitola General Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 1am Saturday, Durgata added. The body was kept at the hospital morgue and would be sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
