The Cyber Crime Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three people for allegedly spreading rumors on social networking sites, during the ongoing students’ protest for safer roads.

Mahbubur Rahman Arman 30, Alamgir Hossain, 27 and Saidul Islam 31 were arrested from different parts of Dhaka city on Sunday night. Police also seized their mobile phones, computers, and memory cards.

DMP Cyber Crime Division Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Najmul Islam has confirmed the news.

One of the detained Mahbubur Rahman Arman said he is a cyber analyst. He is also known as Cyber Mahbub. He has an online group called “Fight For Survivors Right.FSR,” and his ID is arman@mahahabuburrahman.

According to the police, he used these accounts to spread rumors. Additionally, Saidul and Alamgir used their own IDs to spread rumors about violence.

Police investigations found them to be spreading rumors through Facebook live and posts—and more information will be available once they have been interrogated.

They are already arrested in a case filed under cyber law, at Ramna police station. Police have applied to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate for seven days of remand.

The police will continue their drives against such crimes.
