Update : 20 Feb 2017, 01:12 AM
The contractor, Didar Hossain Sajib, 34, is also a ward-level leader of the Awami Swechchhasebak League, an affiliate of the ruling party, police and family sources told the Dhaka Tribune. Sajib is currently undergoing treatment at LabAid Hospital in Dhanmondi. Speaking to reporters in the hospital, Sajib said he was going home in Mohakhali's Dakkhinpara from Uttarpara on his motorcycle when two miscreants attacked him. He recognised one of the miscreants, Javed, who shot him in the left side of his chest. “I fell off my motorcycle. Then Javed shot at me in my right hand. When he tried to get away after that, I tried to stop him. He shot me again and the bullet hit me in my left ear. I started screaming and people started gathering around us, and they fled,” Sajib said. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, before he was transferred to LabAid. Sajib did not give any details about exactly who Javed is. Asked if he knew why he was shot, Sajib said he did not know because he did not have any enemies. Sajib's brother Jahidul Islam said Sajib was a candidate for the presidential post of Swechchhasebak League unit in his ward. Jahid did not know why Sajib was shot or who Javed was either. Banani police station OC Farman Ali said they were looking into the matter.
