War on drugs: Suspected drug dealer shot, 51 detained in Mohammadpur

The suspected drug dealer has been admitted to the National Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation at Pangu Hospital

A suspected drug dealer was shot in his legs and 51 other people were detained in two separate anti-drug drives in Mohammadpur, Dhaka, on Wednesday.

Falu was hit by police fire in the first raid conducted at around 2am in the 40-foot Road area of Bosila. 

The suspected drug dealer was taken to the National 

Institute of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation of Pangu Hospital. 

“Falu was shot when police returned fire after a number of miscreants started shooting at them,” DMP Tejgaon division Additional Deputy Commissioner Wahidul Islam said. “The other miscreants managed to flee the scene.”

Police say Falu has 14 different criminal cases filed against him.

They launched the raid after “responding to a tip-off”, and recovered 305 yaba pills, 1kg of marijuana and 50g of heroin. 

Raid at Geneva camp

Later on Wednesday, around 300 members of Tegaon division police, Detective Branch and special action groups including the dog squad, conducted an anti-drug drive at Mohammadpur’s Geneva camp from 10am-1pm.

“Police first cordoned off the entire Geneva camp area before searching the building, which was suspected to be used by drug dealers,” ADC Wahidul Islam said. 

“A number of the suspected drug dealers had attempted to run away after locking their rooms, and police had to break into 20-25 such locked rooms.”

A total of 51 suspected dealers and users were detained from the location, and 700 yaba pills were recovered.
