Moazzem Fakir, a member of Bipul Bahini, was killed in a “gunfight” early Friday, reported UNB.
Pangsha OC Mofazzal Hossain said they detained Moazzem Thursday night.
Later, police took Moazzem and conducted a drive at Maura Bongram village based on the information disclosed by the detainee during interrogation.
Sensing the presence of police, Moazzem's cohorts opened fire at the law enforcers around 2:30am.
In retaliation, police fired back which resulted in a “gunfight” that left Moazzem injured. The others however managed to flee the scene.
Moazzem was taken to Panghsa Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered a shutter gun and a bullet during the drive.
The OC said Moazzem was wanted in a number of cases, including murder.
