Samrat Mandal was arrested in Chandu village of Agailjhara upazila, Barisal early Sunday and brought to the office of Gopalganj Additional Superintendent of Police Aminul Islam for interrogation.
Police arrested Samrat two days after the victim's father filed the case with Gopalganj’s Kotalipara police station against Samrat and his two friends – Sajal Biswas and Mithu Basu.
Police are conducting raids to arrest Sajal and Mithu, Aminul told the Dhaka Tribune.
According to the case, on the night of February 5, when the victim went to the bathroom outside her house, the three accused grabbed her and forcefully stripped her naked.
They recorded a nude video of her and threatened to upload the footage on social media.
Unable to bear the humiliation, the victim attempted to kill herself by taking poison the same night.
Samrat with his accomplices committed the heinous act because the girl did not return his love interest.
