The suspect Tawhid Sheikh, son of Motaleb Sheikh hailing from the district’s Kotalipara upazila, is a third year honours student.
The victim, an eight grader of Kotalipara Union Institution Pilot School, was injured during the attempted abduction was admitted in Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex, sources said.
According to eyewitnesses and police, the incident took place in Alithapara village of the upazila on Saturday morning.
The student alleged that Tawhid forced her to a van while returning home after taking private tuition in the village around 7:30am.
Local people instantly noticed the matter, coming to her rescue. The incident also drove them agitated to give Tawhid a good beating, leading to him being handed over to police.
About a year ago, the victim refused an affair proposal of Tawhid, when he was her house tutor, she claimed.
After she informed the matter to her parents, they dismissed him as her tutor, making Tawhid angry over the incident.
The schoolgirl’s father, an employee of Kotalipara municipality, accused Tawhid of being a regular stalker and also a drug addicted.
He primarily filed a general diary over the incident with local police station.
Officer-in-charge Md Mostafizur Rahman of Kotalipara police station, confirming the detention, said a case would be filed in this connection.
Dr Premananda Mandal of the health complex said the victim suffered injuries on her face during the attempted abduction which also left her traumatised.
