Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said question scripts of the ongoing Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations are getting leaked when candidates are inside their test centres.
“Candidates benefit from the leaked questions only when they can manage to find answers to those questions,” he told a press briefing at the DMP’s media centre on Sunday.
"The situation is not exactly the same as rumors of question leakage are spreading," Baten said.
Question scripts reach the test centres 40 minutes before a scheduled test starts. And the scripts are getting leaked within this time, he added.
On Saturday, Detective Branch members detained 14 people from different areas in Dhaka for their alleged involvement in leaking question papers of the SSC examinations.

The detainees used to run several social media groups to attract clients’ attention and distribute their leaked question papers among them, Baten said, adding that they were yet to detain the kingpins of such gangs.
"Members of these gangs secretly photograph question scripts when sealed packets carrying them are opened at the test centres. Later, they upload the images on social media sites to distribute them among their clients.”
The DMP official also said they had so far blocked 300 SIM cards used by such gangs to reach out to their clients.

A total of 1,774,533 students are appearing in this year’s SCC examinations.
Despite stringent measures, the authorities fail to prevent the leaking of question papers.
