Update : 25 Jan 2018, 03:34 PM
Having an educated wife with an ambition has driven a husband in Jessore to throw acid on his wife’s face. The victim, Razia Sultana, 30, is daughter of Monir Uddin of Kashipur village in Manirampur Upazila of Jessore. The incident occurred on Wednesday as Razia was visiting her parents, reports UNB. Family members rushed in hearing her screams, and took her to the Jessore General Hospital. Doctors there referred her to the Burn Unit at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, seeing significant damage done to her eyes. Meanwhile, the husband, Kamruzzaman, a motorcyclist for hire hailing from Bangalipur village of the same upazila, has gone into hiding. Talking to UNB’s Jessore correspondent, Razia said how she had recently completed her Master's degree and was looking for a job. This did not sit well with her husband, who was against her decision to have a career. "We had been arguing on-and-off over this. Today (Wednesday) in the morning as I just sat there in my father's house, before I could realize anything, he appeared out of nowhere and hurled acid targeting my face. I could only scream as I felt my face get scalded," Razia said. On-duty doctor Najrul Islam said: "Razia's face and eyes were burned severely by the acid, and so she was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment." Officer-in-Charge Mukarram Hossain of Manirampur police station said a case has been filed, and they were looking for the husband as he went into hiding after the incident.
