Two killed during Cox’s Bazar clash over land

The deceased are Md Shahjalal, 24, and Mohiuddin, 23, of Islampur union in the upazila. “There was a longstanding dispute over land between the families of Shahjalal and Mohiuddin. However, on Friday around 12:30pm, when Shahjalal was returning home from a local market at Neelapara of the union, Mohiuddin and his men swooped on Shahjalal and assaulted him,” Sub-inspector of sadar police station Bakhtiar Uddin Choudhury quoted locals as saying. “On information, when Shahjalal’s relatives went to the spot, the two groups locked in a violent clash leaving the two injured,” the SI added. Shahjalal died on the way to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital while Mohiuddin died at the hospital. The dead bodies have been kept at the hospital’s morgue, said Bakhtiar, adding that filing of a case was underway.
