11-year-old girl raped in Savar

An 11-year-old girl has been reportedly raped by a neighbour in Rajphulbaria area of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka.   Savar Model police station's Sub-Inspector Abul Kashem said the incident took place on Sunday night. According to the victim's family, the girl helped her father at his tea stall in the area. After finishing her task, she was returning home when Aminul Islam Babu, 19, caught her off-guard, and muffled her mouth so that she could not scream. He then took her to the roof of nearby house and raped her. At one stage, the girl managed to shout for help which led to her rescue. Her family members and neighbours caught Babu on the spot. According to a case filed in this regard on Monday morning, Babu's family forcibly took him away from the crime scene and helped him go into hiding. The victim has been at admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College for treatment. Police has detained Babu's father, while he remains on the loose.
