The deceased is Rahat, 32, son of late Shahidullah Miah of Bujruk Santoshpur village.
“Rahat was accused in 10 cases of murders and robbery. Acting on tip-off, police arrested him from his village on Sunday night,” Mithapukur OC Humayun Kabir told the Dhaka Tribune on Monday morning.
“He admitted of hiding his arms in another place. Then a police team led by SI Swapan took him on a drive to recover the arms. Rahat’s cohorts opened gun fire when police reached Bheluar bridge area around 2am.”
“In retaliation, police fired back that left Rahat dead on the spot. Two cops were injured also in the gunfight,” the OC added.
Police recovered a shooter gun and four bullets from the spot. The injured policemen were taken to local hospital.
