Update : 13 Oct 2017, 06:55 PM
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Friday morning arrested the ringleader of a mugging gang from Narayanganj district's Ruposhi area, who may have also recently murdered a Daffodil International University student. He was identified as Md Jibon Hossain alias Litu. Confirming the matter, RAB 3 Commanding officer (CO) Imranul Hassan told the Dhaka Tribune: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted the drive in Ruposhi and arrested Litu. In primary investigation, we found that Litu is the ringleader of a mugging gang in Tikatuli area.” He added that Litu’s name was among those that had come up in connection with the recent murder of Daffodil International University student Khondakar Abu Talha in in Dhaka’s Wari on Sunday, October 8. The RAB 3 CO said Litu had not yet confessed to the murder, so investigators were trying to match his face to video footage of the murderers caught by the CCTV camera of a building near where the incident took place. However, Litu’s position as the ringleader of a mugging gang had been confirmed. The Dhaka Tribune has obtained the video footage, which shows two youths right before and after they snatched valuables from two passengers of a rickshaw. The incident happened at Wari’s KM Das Lane. Sources said the youth wearing a purple full sleeve shirt seen in the footage was Litu and the other, wearing a blue T-shirt, was Hira. Litu was seen carrying the purse of the female passenger of the rickshaw. Both of them were released from prison few days ago, according to sources. RAB 3 CO Imranul Hassan said the name of one Aslam had also come up in the investigation.
