Customs seizes Harley Davidson bike in Chittagong

Customs Intelligence has seized two high-powered illegal motorcycles in Chittagong that were allegedly smuggled into the country. A team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) conducted the drive on October 5, a press release from the directorate said on Wednesday. Based on a tip-off, the motorcycles were seized from a house on Bandel Road of Patharghata area under Kotwali police station, the release said. The two vehicles were a black Harley Davidson (Registration No Dhaka Metro A 1128) and a red and silver Royal Enfield (Dhaka Metro A 0117), owned by one Imtiaz Habib. According to the press release, the owner failed to show the papers related to registration and import of the motorcycles.Assistant Director of CIID Chittagong division Tarek Mahmud told the Dhaka Tribune: "We seized the motorcycles from the building on October 5, and sent them to our warehouse to verify the papers and licences. "After the investigation and collecting information from Bangladesh Road and Transport Authority, we found that the registration numbers on both vehicles were false, and then we officially announced them seized today," he added. Under Bangladeshi import laws, import of all motorcycles above 155cc are prohibited. But in primary investigation, it was seen that the seized motorcycles were 1690cc and 350cc respectively. According to the press release, the market price of the motorcycles is about Tk30 lakh. Issuance of departmental cases and other legal measures are underway in this regard.
