Girl injured in Ashkona blast undergoes surgery

“Her left arm was broken. Besides, splinters pierced her belly making some holes in the oesophagus,” said Dr Moshtaque Ahmed, DMCH indoor medical officer of Casualty department, after the successful operation on Saturday night. “We have repaired the holes. She has been kept in post operative ward. She is not out of danger yet. We can say nothing before the next 72 hours,” he added. Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Chief Monirul Islam said: “A female militant, clad in a burqa, came out of the flat with a seven-year-old girl around 12:20pm Saturday and blew herself up during a police raid at a militant hideout in Dhaka’s Ashkona. The blast left the woman dead and the kid and a police officer injured, he added. After the blast, Sabina claimed herself as the daughter of one Iqbal and Shakira. The CTTC unit conducted Operation Ripple 24 at a house in Ashkona Purba Para area of Dhaka’s Dakkhinkhan on Saturday which led to the capture of two female militants and the rescue of three children. Two others were killed in the raid – a woman killing herself by detonating a suicide vest and a teenage boy whose cause of death remains unclear.
