Update : 19 Sep 2017, 04:30 PM
Bangladesh Chhatra League has suspended their Barisal unit’s Secretary General Asim Dewan for breaching the party’s code of conduct after his arrest. Asim was arrested by the police on Monday, when he was fleeing in a car with a girl he and his associates had abducted from Bashundhara Residential Area on Monday night. The victim of the abduction is the daughter of a BNP leader from Barisal. When the police pulled him over in the Rupganj-Murapara Ferryghat area, they found an unlicensed foreign revolver and five bullets on him and recovered the victim. Rupganj police station Officer-in-Charge Ismail Hossain told the Dhaka Tribune: “Asim Dewan and his goons abducted the girl from Bashundhara Residential Area on Monday afternoon.” “The abduction was immediately reported to the police, RAB and other law enforcement agencies. Police tracked the vehicle down, along with the culprits and the victim, in Rupganj-Murapara ferryghat around 10:30pm,” added Ismail Hossain. Meanwhile, BCL President Saifur Rahman Sohag and General Secretary SM Zakir Hossain issued a signed press release, stating that Asim Dewan (general secretary, BCL, Barisal) has been suspended from the party by decision of the Bangladesh Chhatra League Central Executive Committee on Tuesday. Sources claim that Asim Dewan had distanced himself from representing the BCL unit of Barisal, despite his post as its general secretary.
