A court in Narayanganj yesterday granted a time extension petition filed for Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the two seven-murder cases, and RAB official Lt Col Tareq Sayeed, who was forced to go into retirement.
After granting the petition, Syed Enayet Hossain, judge of Narayanganj District and Sessions Judge Court, said he would record deposition on March 28.
It was the sixth time an extension petition was granted for the two accused.
But seven witnesses, including a judicial magistrate, testified and were interrogated yesterday.
Earlier in the day, 23 accused in the case were produced before the court amid tight security.
So far, 23 people have been arrested over the seven murders and 12 are in hiding.
Each case has 127 witnesses and they all are the same, which is why they have been interrogated in both cases at the same time.
The seven people, including Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker, were abducted on April 27, 2014. Six of them were later found dead in the Shitalakhya River on April 30, and the seventh on May 1.
On April 8 last year, police submitted the charge sheet, naming 35 people, including Nur Hossain and three former RAB officials.
Charges were framed against the 35 on February 8 this year.
