A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight with police at Ramkantapur village under Shalikha upazila in Magura yesterday.
The deceased was Obaidur Rahman, 32, son of Mejbah Uddin.
Abu Jihad, officer-in-charge of Shalikha police station said, on secret information, a team of police launched a drive in the area around 2am when a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area.
As the lawman reached the spot, the gang members opened fire at them, compelled the police personnel to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
Later, police recovered the body of Obaidur while his other associates managed to flee the scene.
The OC also claimed that Sub-Inspector (SI) Nasirul Islam, four police constables identified as Holam Rasul, Abdul Aziz, Abu Sayeed and Maruf Hossain were wounded during the gunfight
The injured policemen were admitted to Magura Sadar Hospital.
One foreign-made pistol, one magazine, some sharp weapons, three rounds of bullet and six rounds of bullet shell were recovered from the spot.
