The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five members of
Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) including its Mymensingh Ameer Huzayfa Akand alias Shahin alias Siam, 25, during a raid at Matuail in Demra, Dhaka last night.
They also seized a huge cache of explosive material and improvised explosive devices from the JMB men’s possession.
Speaking at a press briefing last night, RAB Media and Legal Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan that a RAB team raided a flat in Matuail around 9:30pm following a tip-off and arrested the JMB members and leader.
RAB suspects they had gathered in the city to plan attacks on Independence Day or Pohela Boishakh, Mufti said.
During primary interrogation, the JMB men also confessed to recruiting new members from different districts, he further said.
The investigation is still in progress, and further details regarding their plans will be confirmed after the investigation is complete, Mufti said.
