Four alleged pirates have been killed in a “gunfight” with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and Coast Guard in Kochukhali area of Sharankhola range of Sundarbans in the district.
Director of RAB, legal and media wing, commander Mufti Mahmud Khan confirmed the deaths to the Dhaka Tribune.
Mahmud said a gunfight occurred in the area between pirates and members of RAB and Coast Guard, leaving four alleged pirates including Monir group ringleader Monir, 35, his deputy Enam, 35, dead on the spot.
Later, law enforcers seized 18 firearms and 450 rounds of bullets from the scene.
