A leader of a robber gang has been killed in a “gunfight” with the police in Kushundi Bridge area of Magura sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased is Amirul Islam Liton, 32, son of Idris Mollah, of Azampur village of the upazila.
Magura Additional Police Super Tariqul Islam said a gang of robbers were preparing to commit robbery in Kushundi Bridge area.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team from sadar police station conducted a drive there.
Sensing the presence of the police personnel, the robbers opened fire at the law enforcers forcing them to fire back. Later, police recovered Liton’s body from the spot.
Police also recovered a foreign made pistol and five rounds of bullets from the spot.
Litan was accused in several robbery cases.
