Update : 01 Mar 2016, 01:01 PM

Miscreants have hacked a sexagenarian to death and critically injured his son at Rangunia upazila in Chittagong district.

The deceased was identified as Ukil Ahmed, 55, resident of Sarafghata union of Rangunia.

Ahmed’s son Ismail Ahmed, 15, was admitted at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in critical state, said police sources.

Rangunia police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir said the incident took place at Kali Charar Gona area under Jangle Sarafghata union of Rangunia upazila on Tuesday where the miscreants hacked the duo.

The OC said in the morning father and son went to their hilly land located three kilometers away from their house to remove bush and rubbish where the miscreants hacked the duo indiscriminately with sharp weapons and left the spot, leaving them critically injured.

Later, a local wood cutter spotted them and informed the locals and police. On information, police recovered Ukil’s body and sent Ismail to the hospital, added the OC.

“Police were yet to arrest anyone in this connection but came to know that the slain Ukil had long standing enmity with his rival group over a piece of land which may trigger the incident”, added the OC.

Ukil’s elder brother Idrish had been chopped to death by the criminal in February in 2014, said police sources.

The body was sent to CMCH where a case was booked up in this connection, added the OC.
