Three policemen have been accused of assaulting a young man after altercations over a trivial matter at a trade show in Sirajganj.
The three constables – Sumon, Shamim and Ariful – are originally from Rajshahi range but were posted in Sirajganj for additional duty.
The 22-year-old victim, Hira, was admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital after the incident took place on Tuesday night. He is the son of Shahidul Islam of Hossainpur village.
Hira said the three police officials were in plain clothes and he protested their misconduct with a trader at the fair organised by the local chamber of commerce and industry at Shahid Shamsuddin stadium.
“I did not understand their identities at first. They assaulted me as I got into an argument with them. They also hit me hard with bricks in my head,” he said.
Ziaul Hasan Talukder, additional superintendent of police in Sirajganj, yesterday said the accused policemen had been sent back to Rajshahi range in the morning.
“We have also written to police high-ups in Rajshahi to take action against the accused,” he added.
