‘Robber’ killed in gunfight with rivals in Cox’s Bazar

An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with his rivals at Matarbari Connecting Road in Maheshkhali upazila early yesterday.

Officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali Police Station Didarul Ferdous said two local gangs had long been at loggerheads over committing robbery in the area.

Members of a gang opened fire to another gang, forcing its members to  fire back, triggering a gunfight at about 1.00am, that left Murad,27, injured.

Informed, police rushed to the spot and took Murad to Maheshkhali Health Complex where he succumbed to his injures later.

However, other members of both the robber gangs managed to flee the scene. The law enforcers also recovered two country-made pistols and six rounds of bullet from the spot.

The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

On Tuesday, a suspected criminal was killed in a “gunfight” with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Tongi Nodi Bondor area in Gazipur.

The deceased was identified as Jewel, 25, an accused in several cases including murder. He was also an accused in a case filed for gouging out his wife’s eyes.
