Myanmar national held with large Yaba haul

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have detained a Myanmar citizen and discovered a large Yaba haul from his possession in frontier Hechharkhal area under Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district.

Acting on a tip-off, a patrol of the BGB conducted a drive in the area on Wednesday morning and made the arrest.

The identity of the arrested was revealed as Ayas Uddin, 20, son of Jalal Ahmed, from Mangdu Pranpru area in Myanmar.

2 BGB Commander Md Abujar Al-Jahid confirmed it to the Dhaka Tribune and said they caught Ayas Uddin along with 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets.

Being tipped-off, another patrol of the BGB in a drive recovered 160,000 pieces of Yaba pills Naittangpara Nafe River area under Teknaf Municipality in the morning.

However, the drug smugglers managed to escape the spot sensing the presence of the BGB members.

The arrestee was handed over to Teknaf police station authorities and filing a case against him was under process, the commander said, adding that the market value of both Yaba hauls could be about Tk5.10 crore.
