The wife of a Maasranga Television journalist has been hacked to death at home in Gopalganj.
Zakia Begum, wife of Morshedayan Nishan, was attacked by a gang of masked robbers who broke into the house in Bedgram early Friday, said the husband.
But police suspected that the 30-year-old, daughter of Jalal Uddin of Gopalganj town, had been killed over family rows.
Zakia's family also claimed that it was a premeditated act of killing.
Jalal Uddin claimed that his daughter had faced pressure over the past few months to pay dowry. “This led to a dispute and my daughter was killed for that.”
Nishan works as the Gopalganj correspondent of Maasranga Television and is also the editor of Amader Gopalganj, a local daily.
Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Sadar police station Sawgatul Alam said police found no evidence of robbery at Nishan's house.
“That is why we suspect foul play. We have launched an investigation to know the real reason of Zakia's death,” he said.
