A man allegedly threw acid on his spouse at Dhaka’s Demra yesterday on suspicion that she was having an extra-marital affair.
The victim Jesmin Akter is undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with burns on 10% of her body.
Jesmin told the Dhaka Tribune that she had married Amir Hossain, a factory worker, eight years ago and they had three children.
“Several months ago, Amir suddenly started suspecting that I was having an extra-marital affair. He often quarreled with me over this but I have no affair,” she claimed.
Jesmin said her husband was exasperated when she and her children tried to stop him from suddenly leaving home yesterday with bag and baggage. “He suddenly took out a bottle of acid and threw it at me.”
Locals came to her aid hearing her cries and took her to a hospital. Demra police station’s Officer-in-Charge Kawser Ahmed said Amir had been on the run since yesterday’s incident.
