Update : 27 Jan 2016, 07:33 PM

Tendons of legs and hands of a woman were cut off by her former husband at Kashiani upazila in the district yesterday.

The victim was Silva Rani Biswas, 23.

Sources said Silva had been married off with Sukanta Sarker in Singa village  in 2008.

After the marriage, the couple had been living in a rented house at Bngshal in Dhaka.

At one stage, Silva came to know that Sukanta was involved with the underworld’s crime. After knowing his involvement with the crimes, Silva tried to return him to normal life.

She divorced Sukanta in 2015 and went to her ancestral home as he could not return to normal life.

Later,  Sukanta and his cohorts tortured Silva and her mother several times for the divorce.

On the day,  Sukanta and his persons entered the house of Silva and cut off her tendons. They also beat up Nirmala Biswas.

Locals rescued her in critical condition and sent to Gopalganj Hospital. Doctors at the hospital referred her to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), Dhaka as her condition deteriorated.

Sub-Inspector Abu Nayem of Sadar police station said:“Sukanta attacked Silva after she divorced him.”

The couple have a 3-year-old daughter.

A case was filed, SI said.
